Today, there are more publicly caught sex offenders. As you know, they use the internet to get their victims to trust them and to meet. These online offenders are being caught by the local authorities and then getting their faces and such on TV. Because of Meagan's Law, you will find that this people will have to register to the state every time they move for the rest of their life.

You can go online and find many sites that will tell you if you are living in a neighborhood with predators. You don't want to think rather or not there is anyone, you will want to know. You should know who exactly is your neighbor and if you children can go on a bike ride without a parent following. Teenage girls are a target for most sex offenders.

The only thing with online offenders is that they can travel to hurt others. They can meet a girl online who has a fifty-mile radius of where they live and be there in a hour. You have no idea who could want to hurt your child. That is why you need to watch the news. The news will tell you rather or not there going in jail or getting out. It is the public's right to know. It is so great that they are making this public, because it is more dangerous to let out a prisoner who will have the tendency to rape again, then it is to tell the public and ruin their self esteem. In the eyes of the public a sex offender will always be a sex offender.

Dateline has been airing shows where they are catching these people in the act. They are talking to young girls, getting them to agree to have sex with them, and inviting them over. Then when they get to the house they are arrested. Their faces are plastered all over the TV and the net. Then they will have to spend the rest of their life registering with the police.

Thanks to Meagan's Law, some crimes that have a tendency to be repeat offenders will have to be traced on their locations. They are not allowed to move without someone knowing. They will forever be watched, however, they do not check in day to day, and many do not register and are lost. They have warrants out for their arrest; however, before they are caught they could be knocking on your door.

It is important that you speak to all of your children about sex offenders and what they can do to protect themselves. You can protect your children by taking the role of parent and making rules that are enforced when it comes to the net.
